Metra's 2012 proposed service changes (how it was made and latest news)
For the first time since it began service in 1984, Metra proposed service cuts in July 2011 due to increasing operating costs starting in 2012. The original proposal outlined cutting 46 trains in addition to a fare increase up to 20%. Two months later, a revised proposal was released outlining much more minor changes based on strong reaction against the cuts in the original proposal. Without cuts, the fares will likely increase 25%. These charts show how schedules could have changed to compensate for these cuts and the revised schedules.
