Line

1. Composed types, which fill the length of any given measure, constitute a line of that measure.
2. When types are correctly made, the hair lines at the top and bottom of each letter are said to line. A compositor is “put on his lines” when he is paid at a certain rate for a given number of lines containing a thousand ens.
