Goshawk

Astur palumbarius

A sylvan species living and hunting much like the Sparrow-hawk, the Goshawk is rare even in its favoured haunts of the Dee and Spey, scarce in England, and considered confined to Europe. The powerful female easily carries off larger game and was prized in falconry for strength and boldness; the adult is hair brown above with white based nape feathers and barred underparts, the young streaked longitudinally rather than across.
