A small edition of the rat, with moderately full body, short neck, tapering pointed muzzle, very broad rounded ears, and very soft pile greyish-brown above and light yellowish-grey beneath, the feet whitish. Extremely active, timid yet sometimes bold, and astonishingly agile in its leaps, it feeds on almost every household food and gnaws clothes and furniture, litters many times yearly with five to seven young, and is generally distributed wherever man dwells.
