Locusta Surinama, Truxalis Conicus & T. brasiliensis

1. Locusta Surinama. Measuring from eight to nine lines, this locust has a black thorax marked with four longitudinal yellow lines and dull-green tegmina inclining to grey, with very glossy blue wings. The greenish-yellow abdomen bears a series of yellow spots along each side, and the thighs are blood-red at the base with the tip, and sometimes a band near the middle, black; it is found in Surinam.
2. Truxalis Conicus. Truxalis is at once known by its narrow conical head longer than the thorax, its ensiform prismatic antennae as long as head and thorax together, and its long narrow body with slender lengthened legs, the few species peculiar to warm climates and little known in their manners. This form has brownish-yellow thorax and tegmina with a white ray and yellow-and-black-spotted abdomen, while an allied Brazilian species shows pale fulvous tegmina with a central green stripe and wings tinged delicate red.
