Mantis Deiccata
This remarkable and unique mantis, about three inches long with tegmina spanning three and a quarter, is obscure brown variegated with dull red and buff, its chief character a large thin leaf-like membrane on each side of the thorax notched behind. Beneath the semi-transparent tegmina near the tips lies a large black spot ringed with white, the hind wings dark brown, and the four posterior thighs bear a small bifid membranous lobe; it is native to Malacca.
