Erebus crepuscularis & Triphæna materna

1. Erebus crepu­scularis. A characteristic East Indian example of a genus comprising some gigantic moths, the anterior wings dark brown at the base and lighter toward the tip with a pale oblique bar, a large eye-like mark, and dark and light spots near the margin. The under wings are buff at the base then rich brown crossed by undulating lines, all the deeply scolloped wings pale clay-colour beneath; the body matches the wings and is without markings.
2. Triphæna materna. An Indian yellow under-wing moth expanding about three inches and a half, the anterior wings light brown mottled with grey and green and glossy with shifting tints, the posterior wings yellow with a central round black spot and a black border edged with white dots. The thorax is olive and the abdomen yellow, the palpi yellow with blue tips; specimens have come from Coromandel, Surinam, and Bengal.
