Sea Otter

Enhydra marina

Large specimens of this bold swimmer exceed four feet in total length, their exceedingly fine close fur shining deep sepia, sometimes grizzled with white tipped hairs or rich chestnut brown, the head and at times abdomen and feet whitish. Met with three hundred miles from land, it performs antics in the water and balances erect with a paw over its eyes, ranging the Northern Pacific from Behring’s Island to Kamschatka and the Aleutians.
