Syrian Hyrax

Hyrax Syrianus

A creature of pigmy size clothed in thick short fur, brownish gray above and white below with a yellowish tint between, its hairs ringed with yellowish, black, and white, and its exposed skin a blackish violet. About eleven inches long and ten high, it shelters among the rocks of Ethiopia, Abyssinia, Mount Libanus, and Sinai, moving quickly, delighting in heat, and feeding diurnally on grain, roots, fruits, and herbs.
