Volume 16, Plate XIII / Mammalia (Mammals)
Bottle-Nosed Whale of Hunter
Hyperoodon Honfloriensis
Brownish black verging to white beneath and usually upward of twenty feet, it has a flat snout, a very prominent forehead ending suddenly in a flat oval beak, three great crests over the head, and small pectorals. Distinguished by total lack of true teeth save small hard points, it is rare and seldom met, not living in herds; one specimen was taken in the Thames above London Bridge.
