Common Hare

Lepus timidus

A large deep-bodied animal with short neck, broad obtuse head, very large lateral eyes, ears as long as the head, and long hind limbs, its fur yellowish-brown mingled with dusky and grey, the throat and belly white and the recurved tail black above. Feeding by night on grass, clover, corn, and bark, it reposes by day in its form, trusts to vigilance and great speed to escape, and bears three to five furred young able to run.
