Xylocopa Tenuiscapa & X. latipes

Xylocopa Tenuiscapa, placed by Westwood in the section Platynopoda, closely resembles X. latipes and is here figured for the first time. Broad, depressed, and shining black, it measures about an inch and a tenth with wings expanding two and a half inches that shade from violet at the base to coppery green; it comes from India, where these bees are reported very injurious to wooden houses, boring posts with holes half an inch across.
