Libellula Axilena & L. Pulchella

1. Libellula Axilena. Introduced as a handsome example of exotic dragonflies, this species has a head marked with five white spots, a thorax brown above with a slight golden tinge and pale green sides, and an abdomen black along the back with dull-orange sides and a pale-green underside and base. The wings bear an interrupted black border anteriorly before the middle and a black streak at the base with brownish tips; it is a native of Virginia.
2. Libellula Pulchella. This dragonfly has a green forehead, brown eyes each with two yellow spots behind, a brownish-green thorax with two yellow streaks on each side, and an abdomen blue with yellow side-marks in the male but wholly yellow in the female. Each wing bears three brown clouds, at base, centre, and apex, the apical one with a black margin-streak, the male also showing white patches; it is a native of the country round New York.
