Philampelus Vitis
A beautiful American sphinx about four inches across, the head and thorax dark flesh-colour with olive-brown stripes, the anterior wings olive-brown with diverging flesh-coloured bars and a clay-coloured marginal band, the hind wings bluish-ash with a black band and a red hinder extremity. The greenish-yellow caterpillar is striped with reddish-brown and oblique white marks, its anal segment prominent but not horned, feeding variously on the vine, magnolia, and other plants.
