Scarabæus Tityus

About two inches long, prevailingly glaucous inclining to grey, the black head armed with a strong backward-curved horn and the thorax variegated with black and grey bearing three anterior horns, one central and two short lateral. The glaucous-grey elytra are spotted with black and the under side and legs wholly black, the female hornless; it inhabits Carolina, Virginia, and other North American states, being extremely rare in Pennsylvania.
