Longicornes

1. Harlequin Beetle. The Harlequin Beetle, one of the most singular coleoptera, ground colour black clothed with dense silky pubescence, the antennae twice the body length, the head bearing two red triangular patches and the thorax two converging red lines and a moveable lateral spine. The elytra are variegated with undulated red and grey lines and angular figures, the fore legs greatly elongated; common in Brazil and Guiana, sluggish, attracted to the juice of the Bagassa tree.
2. Lamia subo­cellata. Brownish black covered with dense silky pubescence, a broad yellowish-white stripe running along the middle of the head and continued down the thorax centre, the thorax armed with an acute spine on each side. The elytra are marked with numerous rounded yellowish-white spots variable in size.
