Malay Tapir

Tapirus Malayanus

The Malay Tapir is remarkable for the bold contrast of deep purplish brown and white upon its thinly haired, thick skin, with white bordered ears and no mane, the young black and marked with fawn spots until about six months. Measuring six to eight feet in length and three feet or more at the shoulder, it leads a mild, inoffensive life in the forests of the Malay Peninsula and Indian islands, feeding on vegetables and readily growing tame.
