Delphinapterus Peronii

An elegant and sleek dolphin some six feet long, appearing clothed in a black cloak, with snout, sides, pectorals and abdomen of a silky silvery whiteness and a deep bluish-black mark rising at the emerald-green eyes. Bearing a hundred and fifty-six slender pointed teeth, it inhabits the high southern latitudes, gathering in many hundreds about ships near Van Diemen’s Land, the Falklands and the Straits of Magellan.
