Volume 16, Plate XXIV / Mammalia (Mammals)
Pernetty’s Dolphin
Delphinus Pernettii
A smaller dolphin, one weighing a hundred pounds, with a slender greyish beak longer than usual, a curved lower jaw, and a hood near the muzzle resembling the edge of a cloak. Black on the back and pearly grey dappled with black and iron-grey spots beneath, it was met near the Cape-de-Verd Islands in a troop of a hundred, vaulting four feet high and turning over in the air.
