Nymphalis Etheocles & N. Tiridates

1. Nymphalis Etheocles. A native of Africa, chiefly the coast of Guinea, nearly the size of C. Jasius; the surface greenish-black with a broad white band crossing the wings obliquely, divided into spots and contracted on the forewings, with a group of small white spots near its origin. The hindwings bear white crescents along the border and rust-coloured marks; beneath the prevailing colour is pale glossy brown with three ocellated spots at the forewing base and violet lunules on the hindwings.
2. Nymphalis Tiridates. Nearly four inches across, the surface very dark blue approaching black with brown nervures, two transverse rows of small pale-blue spots beyond the middle and dull-yellow crescents along the margin. Beneath it is brownish-grey and glossy with black waved streaks edged blue, yellow streaks and spots, blue-surrounded black spots at the inner angle, and a row of violet ocelli on the hindwings; the tails are short and slender, and it is found in Java and Amboina.
