Papilio Ascanius & P. Paris
- Papilio Ascanius. Type of another South American group, with proportionally longer hindwings each bearing a spatula-shaped tail; the wings are deep black above, browner beneath, the forewings crossed by a broad white band beneath a white arch, the hindwings traversed by a wide band white in front and carmine behind, followed by lunate red spots. The body is black with red side-spots, and this beautiful butterfly is common in northern Brazil but scarce in the south.
- Papilio Paris. One of a natural group across eastern Asia and the Indian Archipelago, dark and broad-winged but enriched with brilliant azure-blue and golden-green points like gold-dust. Spanning about four inches, it has dark-brown forewings powdered with golden-green and hindwings bearing a brilliant azure-blue patch and an ocellated anal spot with red iris; a native of China, received from that country though not very common, and easily confounded with the allied P. Arjuna.
