Black-Bodied Lapwing

Vanellus melasomns

A spur-winged lapwing about the size of our own, its shoulders armed with a strong acute black spine, the crown and crested nape deepest black isolated by a broad white collar joining the white sides of head, neck and breast. A broad black stripe runs from chin to breast, the upper plumage drab-brown, the quills and even tail black with white bases, the belly black and the vent and flanks pure white, near ten and a half inches.
