Black-Tailed Godwit

Limosa melanura

Breeding annually in the fenny districts of England and partially distributed along oozy shores in winter, the Black-tailed Godwit is handsome but never abundant. Its breeding head, neck, and breast are pale brownish-orange barred with blackish-brown, the back blackish-brown barred with orange, and the white rump contrasting with the deep black tail end from which it takes its name, while its long legs and neck lend a heron-like aspect.
