Araguato

Mycetes ursinus

Found about Cumana and the valleys and llanos of Venezuela, this howler has somewhat the appearance of a young bear, nearly three feet long apart from the tail and clothed entirely in thick reddish fur. Intensely gregarious, with above forty counted in one tree, it feeds on fruit and leaves, the females carrying young upon the shoulder; its mournful howling is heard half a league off, and its eye, voice, and gait denote melancholy.
