Brachylophus viridis

The Green Woodpecker is England’s commonest native woodpecker, seldom found beyond Yorkshire and unknown in Scotland, its remarkable startling scream uttered on alarm, frequenting woods of lesser timber, climbing bushes, and descending to the ground to seek ants and larvae. The adult male is siskin green above shading to gamboge yellow rump, yellowish grey below, with a red crown and jaw patch and black around the eyes, and it flies low and undulating.
