Crypturus rufescens

Crypturus rufescens, a large bird above fifteen inches long, is a native of Paraguay and Brazil, frequenting plains of deep grassy herbage and coming forth in moonlight to newly sown grain, while by day it lies so close it can almost be trodden on. Hunted with dogs and esteemed for its flesh, it nests in long grass with four or five round eggs of brilliant violet, its plumage yellowish orange and wood brown marked with large black crescents.
