Coromandel Quail

Coturnix textilis

Coturnix textilis, a quail resembling the partridges but with longer pointed wings and a migratory habit, never perches and is generally distributed over India, about six inches long and smaller than the European bird. Its upper parts are broadly marked while deep black below distinguishes it against the paler breast, the female wanting most of that black and showing only faint throat bands, her breast reddish brown with black centred feathers.
