Dusting colours

These are similar to those described above under the heading Dry Colours, only they are ground in a mill to a very fine powder. In using them, however, for printing purposes, instead of being mixed with the varnish, they are dusted over it; that is to say, the forme is rolled over with varnish, as with ordinary ink, and after the impression is pulled the colours are dusted over it with a broad camel’s-hair brush or a clean hare’s foot; some pressmen use wool. When the colours are well dried on the impression, the superfluous powder can be cleared off the sheet.
