Index or hand (☞)
A symbol used to point out something which the riter thinks of great importance. Amongt compositors, it is commonly known as a “fist.” The index sign is not frequently used in book work, but cheifly in handbills, posters, and direction placards,—as, “☞ Note the Address,” “☞ To the Printer’s Register Office.”
