Small caps
Capital letters of a small size, used for the purpose of giving greater emphasis to a word than can be conveyed by Italic; and for displaying lines, the running heads of pages, heads of chapters, side-heads, &c. In manuscript, small capitals are indicated by two lines drawn under the words. In general they are cut to Roman founts only, but sometimes to Italic founts. The letters c o s v w x z are so like lower-case letters that care must be taken that they are not used with them. Typefounders should give these letters a nick on the back.
