Violet-Tufted Humming-Bird

Trochilus petasophorus

Distinguished by tufts of stiff feathers springing from the sides of the neck and by a bill serrated along its margins, this bird is a native of Brasil. Its upper parts are golden green, the chin and throat a soft brilliant green fading to gray below, while the neck tufts shine purplish violet, often turning golden green; its female has not been discovered.
