Vieillot’s Humming-Bird
Trochilus chalybeus
First described in 1823 and dedicated to an eminent ornithologist, this elegant bird is about three inches long and of graceful form, with two bundles of fan-shaped green neck feathers each ending in a round white spot. The forehead and cheeks are brilliant green, the back green with yellowish reflections, and the tail a rich sienna red; a native of Brasil, it is very rare in collections.
