Half-Tailed Humming-Bird

Trochilus encurus

Remarkable for having only six feathers in its tail, this slender little species was long doubted yet confirmed by several specimens. It is golden green above and below, with a rich purple scaly patch on the throat and bands of white and yellow crossing toward the back; its tail forks nearly two inches, widening outward at the tips, and it inhabits Brasil and the island of Trinidad.
