Sapphire-Throated Humming-Bird

Trochilus sapphirinus

Called simply “the Sapphire,” this bird is about three inches and six lines long, golden green above with a clear yellow bill darkening toward the point. A rust-coloured chin gives way to the rich and beautiful blue that names it, spread over throat, breast, and upper belly in scaly feathers; the female wants this rusty chin, and the bird inhabits Guiana, Cayenne, and Brasil.
