Bactrian Camel

Camelus Bactrianus

Supposed to have originated in Bactria and spread thence over Persia, Tartary, and China, this hardiest of the camels endures great variety of climate and is carried by the Mongolians even to Lake Baikal. It is at once known by two large fatty humps, one on the shoulders and one near the croup, stands seven feet and a half at the hump, and bears dark brown, shaggy, lengthened hair upon the crown of each hunch, mane, and forearm.
