Guazu-Pita

Subulo rufus

Named for the red colour of its hair, the Guazu-Pita inhabits low, moist woods and is polygamous, ten females being commonly seen to one male. Standing about twenty-nine inches at the shoulder, it is reddish-brown, with whitish inner ears, lips, belly, buttocks, and inner fore legs; it is very fleet briefly but soon tired and overtaken by dogs, while the hornless females share the reddish tint with a white spot above the nose.
