One-Horned Sumatran Rhinoceros

This Javan rhinoceros bears a more attenuated head and muzzle, with smaller, less prominent neck folds and a thick coat divided into small polygonous tubercles bearing short bristly hairs, the ears and whole tail bordered with long stiff bristles. Living gregariously from the ocean level to lofty mountain peaks, though preferring high situations, it is comparatively mild, wallows in mire, rambles by night, and feeds on branches, twigs, fig shoots, and favoured plantains, often injuring coffee and pepper plantations.
