Two-Horned African Rhinoceros

Rhinoceros Africanus

Formerly frequent within the Cape Colony, this two-horned African rhinoceros suggests an enormous hog in form, with small eyes, proportionate ears, and shapeless clumsy legs, measuring above eleven feet over the back and hairless save the ear edges and tail tip. Approachable only against the wind through its keen smell and hearing, it sometimes charges furiously yet is nimbly evaded and often felled by a single ball, its flesh esteemed like beef and its hide cut into whips.
