Alexandrine Ring-Parrakeet

Palæornis Alexandri

A well-known and favourite species, anciently brought from Ceylon and India, distinguished by green plumage, a coloured bill, and a neck-collar much remarked by Greek and Roman writers. Highly prized for its docility and powers of articulation when aged, it is still frequently imported from the East Indies, though its habits in a state of nature remain comparatively unknown.
