Rose-Ringed Parakeet

Palæornis torquatus

A graceful parrakeet long favoured in confinement despite its discordant screams, ranging across Senegal eastward to India, the eastern race larger than the African. Predominantly grass-green, brightest on the head and palest below, the male’s crown tinges into celestial blue ending in a narrow rose line and black collar about the cheeks and chin, with a coral-red upper bill and very long middle tail-feathers; the female is entirely green.
