Estrelda phænicotis

An elegant little bird whose most striking feature is the deep purplish-red spot upon the ears of the male, wanting in the female. The form is typical, with a lengthened conic bill and a long slender graduated tail; a light greyish-brown covers the upper parts while the tail, its covers, and most under plumage are sky or verditer-blue, the middle of the body alone white, the legs whitish.
