Pithecus satyrus

Confined to Borneo, Sumatra, and Malacca, this reddish-brown ape bears hair six inches long upon the back, a bluish-grey skin, and arms so long their span reaches near five feet, the thumbs short and the feet hand-like. Incapable of true upright walking, it climbs and swings with great strength, feeds chiefly on fruit, and though mild and melancholy when young, adults may exceed six feet and grow ferocious.
