British Greyhound
Canis leporarius
The British greyhound shares one race with the best breeds of western Europe, yet surpasses all in sporting qualities and beauty. The smooth-haired sort was first imported from France and improved by selected individuals from the Greek Islands, Italy, Barbary, and even India, and by the care of intelligent sportsmen, until it stood unrivalled in open country for speed, beauty, and spirit joined with docility.
