Brown Hyæna

Hyæna fusca

The brown hyaena stands rather higher than a large dog but is proportionally shorter in body, similar in form to the spotted kind though its muzzle is buff with a black ridge on the nose. The sides bear scanty, very coarse long hair of an ashy buff showing indistinct, broad, obliterated bars, the back mane is dark sepia, and the tail long and dark; it may be the Faadh of Shaw, though the specimen wants a known habitat.
