Gould’s Humming-Bird

Trochilus Gouldii

Of unknown native district and similar in size to the tufted-necked species, this splendid bird shows forehead, throat, and upper breast of brilliant scaly green, a raisable chestnut crest springing from the crown, golden-green back crossed on the rump by a whitish band, and brownish-purple wings and tail. Its neck tufts are of snowy white narrow feathers, each tipped with a round spot of bright emerald-green bordered dark, the longest above and tapering to a butterfly’s-wing shape.
