White-Striped Humming-Bird

Trochilus mesoleucus

A native of Brazil of considerable size and strength, marked by a narrow white stripe running from the throat along the centre of the belly to the tail-coverts, measuring about four inches and a half with a straight, long bill. The head plumes are rich glaucous blue and scaly, the throat and neck clothed in scaly amethystine feathers paling to greyish-white in the female, the back and sides dull golden-green, and the slightly forked tail brownish-green with white-spotted outer feathers.
