Supercilious Humming-Bird (Male)

Trochilus superciliosus

Found in both Guiana and Brazil, this bird has a long bent bill dilated at the base and orange beneath, upper plumage of brown bronzed green, two reddish-white lines marking the cheeks, and all lower parts brownish-white. The wedge-shaped tail has feathers widening then ending in sharp points, the long centre feathers suddenly narrowing as the male’s mark, coloured bronzed green shading to black with white borders; the female is more brilliant with an amply rounded chestnut-red tail.
