Stoke’s Humming-Bird

Trochilus Stokesii

Discovered on the island of Juan Fernandez and measuring about four inches and a half, this most splendid species has its crown clothed in scaly brilliant blue forming a rounded crest, the upper body bright emerald-green and the ample tail mixing green and white. The pure white under parts, tinged green on the throat, are everywhere relieved by round golden-green spots, while the cheeks show pink or violet spots and the slender straight bill bears forehead feathers reaching the nostrils.
