Loddiges’s Humming-Bird

Trochilus Loddigesii

A native of Brazil whose female remains unknown, distinguished from its near ally by a longer bill, less white behind the eye, and a long slender crest of brilliant blue with purple reflections and a lilac tinge, wanting the white tip. The upper parts are golden-green, a white spot sits behind each eye, the pure white under parts bear a longitudinal patch of deep black down the centre, and the tail is steel-blue for two-thirds, tipped white.
