Even-Tailed Amethystine Humming-Bird
Trochilus orthura
Known among the amethysts and a native of Cayenne, this species reaches about two inches and a half, with head, neck, back, and tail-coverts golden-green, two narrow white lines springing from the mouth, and a throat patch of rich amethystine purple changing to red, bordered with greyish-white and deep brown. The flanks and lower coverts are deep cinnamon-red, the belly’s centre pure white, and the ample, perfectly square tail is golden-green tipped black, the outer feathers white-tipped.
